Hurricane Irene

Thought I share some of the damage from my neck of the woods! Thankfully I made it out unscathed, but some of my neighbors were not so lucky! I hopeful that the estimate I received from the electric company to have my power restored is accurate. I can't wait to see if it is! Come on 5pm-11pm tomorrow! Living in the dark is not fun!

I snapped these during the storm. Not fun!

I woke up to this the next morning. . . overturned planters and trellis.

Squished plants.

This branch fell in my neighbors' yard.

Gazing balls blew into the neighbors' yard--these are metal and heavy!

I was scared this tree was going to fall.

Thankfully, it only lost this branch.

A few chairs down, and lots of leaves, but no major damage! Yay!

However, the rest of the neighborhood wasn't as lucky:

It's no wonder why the initial estimate to restore power was one to two weeks!

Trees were/are down everywhere. Several took out homes.

This tree ripped up the curb and part of the road. Neighbors lost fences, garages, carports, cars, not to mention lots of broken glass. Blah! I don't have any photos, but I saw lots of tin roofed homes with the roofing rolled up like a sardine can lid.

The irony of this photo--you can see where the HUGE tree fell, but other than that the yard is clean. Go figure!

Now that I'm supposed to have power back tomorrow night, I can get things together for a Shabby Chic inspired Halloween, and try and finish what I'm doing in my home office!

I hope nobody was hurt! It's such a tragedy to see big old trees like that fallen.

Wow, your area was really hit hard. I'm sorry.

Glad your damage was minimal. It's so sad to see such huge trees fallen....it will take forever to replace them and the new trees just never seem to have the character and strength of the old ones.

hi Mikey, so happy to know you had no damage. Wow, your neighbors sure had the brunt of the storm on your street. Scary sight to see those power lines down. Take care while you and your town recover..........

ouch, poor neighborhood!! glad you came away virtually unscathed though. our area was hit by an ice storm a couple of years ago. took out so many beautiful old trees. the sad part is that many folks refuse to plant trees now! :(

Mikey, I am glad you had no damage, but the rest of the neighborhood did not fare as well as you! I hope everything gets cleaned-up quickly!

Mikey,
While I am extremely glad that you came through Irene a touch luckier than your neighbors I still find it a little disheartening to see the pictures of what the winds and rain did around your house. I remember your posting on the alfresco dining parties from earlier this summer and then to see your yard in such disarray. Hoping power is soon restored and you can get back to a little bit of normality. Take care and be careful while picking up. – gary
