Mercury Glass Christmas

As promised, here are more photos from my dining room!

Center stage is this lovely cast-concrete statue of Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus my step dad found when clearing out his flowerbed. It was under layers and layers of mulch and had been forgotten over the years.

I made these butlers' gazing balls using mercury glass candle holders and mercury glass orbs. I've hand the candle holders for years and picked up the balls at a yard sale a while back for about a quarter each!

To add texture and interest to the display, I layered the top of the altar with antique sheet music and a burlap coffee sack. After taking down my Fall Mantelscape, I had all of the hardware from it in this bowl and added it in for an additional focal point.

While I didn't secure my gazing balls to the candle sticks, you could use a temporary adhesive such as poster putty or something similar. Don't use floral clay--it won't come off.

More goodies coming this week--including how I transformed a $5.00 Christmas tree into what you see in the corner above! Also check back later today or early tomorrow for a post on my favorite sources for French Flair items--whether for gifts or for you!

I sure do love the candlesticks and ornaments. I have a few mercury glass candlesticks but of course, would never be so lucky as to find large ornaments like that at a yard sale. I looked last night while shopping and didn't see anything that would work and even look half as nice as yours....I'll keep looking. I really like it, thanks for the inspiration.

I have never been to a yard sale that has anything as good as what you find. Love the orbs...I paid way more than that for mine at Pottery Barn. Looks great!

It all looks wonderful - hanging out for the next installment of loveliness.
The statue is great - what an archeological find that was (incentive for all of us to dig in our gardens!!!). I guess once it was painted to look garish and bright...
We don't seem to have got to the mercury glass stage here in Aus, never have so not likely to ever find any in a garage sale either :-(
Keep the delights coming!

I love your mercury glass, but that statue of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph has my heart. What a great find.
