Ektorp Sofa from Ikea

I just got the Ektorp sofa from Ikea in Blekinge white. You know the now famous $399 sofa! I must say, I was skeptical that it really all fit in the box it came in--to the point I had a gnawing feeling I left a box at the store. But low and behold, the ENTIRE sofa fits in a surprisingly small box just over a foot deep and 3 feet wide by about 8 feet long! Amazing!

All you do is open the box, screw on the legs and arms, unwrap the vacuumed packed cushions, flip up the back, and pop on the slipcovers! Each cushion as well as the frame has a separate cover--so it really looks upholstered.  Everywhere I have read says they wash very well in case of spills. The good thing, too, to remember is that a new slip cover starts at only $49! Yup, you read that right! A new white cover like this is $49! It is a very nice quality cotton denim--nice zippers and seaming and everything!

It took a bit of re-arranging to get everything situated. More photos here.

Also, look for photos from the AMAZING model train set I got to see a few weeks ago coming very soon!

Don't forget about the GIVE-A-WAY!!!

You are going to LOVE your new sofa. I love mine! I have 3 kids, 3 dogs, and 2 cats and I have no problem with it looking clean all the time. I wash it maybe once every 3 months (the cover) and then I pay my 13 year old daughter $3 to put the covers back on. Works for me! When people come over they always say--how do you keep your couch so clean and on and on about how impractical it is. I tell them everybody's couch gets dirty--you can just tell when mine is, and then I wash it! Congrats on your new purchase:)

I have wondered about the durability of the Ektorp, but I've heard nothing but great things from everyone I know who has this sofa. It looks great in your living room!

I bought a slip covered couch and chair from a big company, both have ripped at the zippers and completely pulled out. The cushions were remade once. And to buy another set it is way too expensive for me to do now. Putting them back on after washing is a trying experience, too. Very disappointed. So IKEA will be my next one.

Your new sofa looks fabulous, Mikey! But I'm more intrigued by the appearance of your beautiful streamlined living room.

I haven't had the opportunity to visit since your kitchen remodel, and it looks as though you've been quite busy sprucing up your dwelling. I must try to catch up on what you've been up to since my last visit. ;)

Thanks for linking to Time Travel Thursday again. I always love seeing your transformations.
