$1,200.00 Kitchen Makeover

[Edit: Check out additional photos here! For photos of construction, click here and here for the Vent Hood tutorial. This was featured in Romantic Homes September 2011 more info on that here.]

My $1,200.00 kitchen remodel is nearly complete! Here is round one of photos!

I love photo mosaics. Picasa makes them so easy!

Mostly close up shots today because the rest of the room is a mess! I hope to get it put back straight very soon!

I love my new vent hood! I'm not quite happy with the silverware on the ledge--I'm not quite sure what I want up there--any ideas?

I love white Ironstone! Can you tell?

My everyday dishes are at arms length from the dishwasher! Yes I now have a dishwasher!

I finally have a place to put my giant punch bowl! It is so pretty with the sunlight hitting it.

Here is a close up shot of the cast iron brackets. I love that they have the number 103 in the design. Item or model number? They are the original chippy wonderful way I found them.

If you pay close attention to the photos you can see where I was re-arranging as I was snapping photos. My grandmother gave me this set of Depression glass mixing bowls. I got the soup tureen at Goodwill.

I have an obsession with trays! Can you have too many? The milkglass salt and pepper shakers were my great-grandmothers.

This is my $12.90 cutting board from Wisteria.com. It was originally $129.00 and I got it for 90% off!

The hardware is Martha Stewart's collection at Home Depot. Look for a post later this week with sources for items. The green Depression glass sugar jar was also my great-grandmothers.

I normally keep paper towels under the cloche, but ran out! Oh no! I re-purposed a vintage Barbicide jar for straws.

Pretty dishes look great stacked on cake plates. If you've never done this before, I recommend it!

Can you have too many Jello molds? I love how they look in an antique egg basket.

My grandmother gave me this--we call them potato salad bowls because her mother-in-law always served potato salad in it! She has picked a set up for my dad, aunt, and uncle, as well.

These mixing bowls are almost too pretty to use.

I need to find a white coffee maker--or maybe stainless steel. White or stainless? Hmmmmm. . . . .

Check back soon for the final before after shots, as well as a post on the vent hood, sources for similar items, and an over all cost break down.

love love love!!! Oh my goodness, you have some great ideas- I especially love the cloche for the paper towels- I may have to steal that idea! ;) ours has to sit on the counter, and I always wish there was a prettier way for it to be in such an obvious space. Love all of your vintage finds- I'm drooling over that green glass sugar jar. If you'd like, I'd love to have you join my Transformations and Treasures party on Wednesday! Awesome transformation with loads of great treasures!

Gosh, Mikey, your kitchen is practically perfect! I love your white on whites mixed with the clear glass. I'm totally in love with your basket full of jello molds, I hope I can copy that somewhere. Did you try your silver tray on your vent hood, that ledge is really interesting. Oh, I vote stainless for the coffee maker, I think a white one would look too much like a wanna-be. Hugs, Kim

That looks wonderful, Mikey! I love all your white pieces. What about using some of them up on the hood? I saw on a blog yesterday someone did white pitchers on their hood ledge and I thought it looked pretty good. Or maybe a chalkboard made from one of those dollar store silver trays or even one of your lovely white platters. I'll bet you could have a lot of fun experimenting though!

Hi Mikey! I'm just back to say I just read my former post and saw you commented that you're a musician - piano and organist! Oh, that's wonderful. You must play beautifully if you're going to make accompaniments! I'm our church pianist and love to play the piano but never could keep my tiny fingers still long enough to play the organ! :)
Make beautiful music.

Ok...just like you told me SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! It is all so beautiful!!! I love it all, especially the things from your family...that makes a space so SPECIAL.

Ok...regarding your vent...I happen to like the silverware up there, but if you want to change it, maybe try your large silver platter and that ice bucket or is it a tropy? I think something larger would look really great too.

Mikey, it is all just wonderful!
